Jump Start is a competitive teaching league for young athletes who are still developing their skills and understanding of the game. Instruction happens before games and continues throughout competition, giving players the guidance they need while they compete in real game situations. It’s a league where athletes learn, compete, and grow at the same time.

Kids are not just expected to already know what to do—they are taught, supported, and given opportunities to apply what they learn.

Jump Start is designed to be developmental without taking away the experience of real competition. Games are organized and officiated, with real scores and standings, while gameplay and expectations are thoughtfully adapted to support players at their stage of development. Younger players receive additional support as they learn, while the experience gradually becomes more independent as they grow. Players can learn the game without losing the experience of real competition.

Every Player Gets the Chance to Develop

Meaningful participation is a core part of development at Jump Start. Players need real opportunities to get involved, make decisions, compete, make mistakes, and improve through the experience of playing. Jump Start prioritizes active participation so players can learn by doing—not simply by watching from the sidelines. Development cannot happen from the bench.

No Required Weekday Practices

Teaching and practice are built into the Jump Start league-day experience, giving players opportunities to learn and develop without requiring families to add another weekday practice commitment. Teams may also choose to practice additionally if they want, but the core learning experience is already part of participating in the league. Practice and teaching are already built into the experience.

Each Jump Start game slot begins with a brief teaching period designed to meet players where they are in their development. The instruction is appropriate for their age and stage, and what they learn connects directly to the gameplay that follows, helping players understand the game and apply what they’ve learned right away.

Put It Into Action

The game follows immediately after the teaching period, giving players the opportunity to put what they just learned into action in a real game setting. By connecting learning directly with competition, Jump Start helps players understand the game through experience—not just instruction.
